A Picnic Feast From Joan's on Third

Years ago Joan's was a tiny catering shop. Since then it's expanded many times and is now a gourmet emporium with consistently scrumptious food. Trouble is, it is usually packed, with long waits for tables, good for Joan, not for me. To avoid the crowds I tend to go there at off hours, in the mornings when it just opens, for late lunches or order take out. On Saturday my husband and I went there to pick up all the fixings for a fab birthday picnic for my mother-in-law Linda.

The cheese selection there is comprehensive. We chose a well rounded selection, 2 goats, 1 cow and 1 sheep. A Chevre de Noire, Sweet Lavendar Honey Chevre, and Abbaye de Belloc and a Triple Crème. A Sopresetta and Framani for the charcuterie with a baguette rounded it out. We did not stop there though, this was a huge celebration.

From the deli we chose an Egg Salad, Corn and Black Bean Salad and Chicken Milanese that we cut up in strips. Olives and nuts were other spots of flavor. For dessert we bought an assortment of cupcakes.

We took this feast to Linda who was at a rodeo watching her grandson compete. The three of us sat under the shade on a picnic table, and enjoyed a lovely feast and memorable afternoon.
