Bravo! Italian Food at Drago Downtown

By now Celestino Drago sure knows how to do it up right. His huge compound in Downtown Los Angeles serves Italian food higher in quality and taste than price, in elegant (not stuffy) digs. There's a spacious dining room, a towering, glass wine cellar, a private room for parties, large bar area, an even larger patio (with heaters), and a room for cooking demos. Care to throw your next soiree there?

Service was impeccable. The Italian food, quite delicious and beautiful. Many dishes looked like they were prepared by a food stylist. Evident of this was the the Pumpkin Cannelloni with hazelnut butter, Parmesan and sage ($14). It tasted as good as it looked.


The I Carciofi ($14), also tasted mighty fine. Grilled artichoke, Belgian endive and Bronte pistachios were taken up a notch with the Evoo sabayon.


The dessert, I Bomboni ($9) was an elegant rendition of doughnut holes. The sugar coated pastries were served with ricotta creme, brown butter gelato and little cubes of poached pears. A perfect ending to a lovely lunch with the ever-fabulous Ruby.

1. If you are going to an event Downtown, Drago Centro offers complementary shuttle service to any event at the Staple Center, Nokia Theater and Music Center. This is a great deal, considering the reasonably priced parking (see #2).

2. Valet parking for dinner service is available between 5:01 pm-3:00 am at two locations: on Figueroa between 6th and 5th Streets and underground in the City National Bank Plaza garage on level A. The first three hours are free, $7 thereafter.

4. Parking for lunch is available underground in the City National Bank Plaza garage from 11:00 am-5:00 pm. The first two hours is $5 with validation.
