Wow Oui: Sausages in Culver City (Saint Amour, Ford's Filling Station, Let's Be Frank)

Culver City is hardly a sausage mecca, yet in two days I had truly excellent, yet distinctive sausages in the "heart of screenland": Saint Amour and Ford's Filling Station.

At Monday's lunch with April at Modern Foodie, we had the most delightful appetizer that could have easily been a meal. Three homemade Merguez Saucisson for $8 is reason enough to lunch at Saint Amour in Culver City again and again. The lamb sausages are only available in the afternoon. Dinner offers three sausage options with higher prices: Andoiuillette (tripe) $19, Boudin Noir (blood) $18, Toulouse (pork) $17.

The day before Win and I attended Ben Ford's Grilling Class at Ford's Filling Station where we learned Ford's tricks while feasting on tastes of summer. The Wisconsin Bratwurst were my fave, poached in beer atop the barbecue then grilled and served with whole grain mustard. While Ford's grill class only comes around once a year, Endless Summer BBQ Sundays occur every Sunday from 4-10 pm $18/person for 2 meats and sides (no brats though).

I couldn't mention sausages without including Let's Be Frank in the Helms Bakery complex across from Father's Office for beef, pork or turkey dogs sans nitrates, hormones and antibiotics. What started as a humble cart is now an all out trailer, and one of my faves.

Le Saint Amour! I need to go! bah! Someone move Culver City closer to me! There's something so self-satisfying about eating a premium sausage, and a good merguez is so hard to find.

Oh, I'd like to have a sausage for lunch myself. Sounds wonderful.

I LOVE sausages! Especially merguez! This now calls for a field trip out to the ever-evolving Culver City. Can't wait to try Le Saint Amour. Thanks for the write up!

Charles: Another bonus, they are served with a heavy French accent. :)
