Be My Los Angeles Valentine

There are so many options this Valentine's Day. Here are a few fun one's:

Low Key Valentine
Stay in and curl up on the couch with some chili and beer, alone or with your honey. Order the award winning chili from Chili Addiction in Hollywood. I bought some this weekend for lunch at the Hollywood Farmer's Market. Loved their Maui Onion and the Prime Rib, both great options. There's a long list of chili varieties on their menu including authentic Texas chili con carne. If you are in their delivery area they'll bring it to you for free. If not, pick it up. They also cater. Prices are reasonable $12 a pint.

Chocolholic Tasting
Chocolate Panna Cotta, Heart Shaped Molten Cake, Mexican Hot Chocolate Shots, Specialty Truffles, Homemade Gelatos, Exotic Fruit, Cheese, & Chocolate Spice Plate... They're all at the 6 course chocolate tasting, a way to impress your favorite chocoholic without having an economic meltdown. Make resos early because they do sell out. Tastings take place on the patio so bring a jacket. $30/person

You can pick up gifts at Compartes too. Since last year was (in my opinion) the year of the bacon. I mean, bacon practically became a fruit, turning up everywhere. So for those pork lovers the Chocolate Pig is cute as a button. At almost 3 lbs. he's cuter than Babe. $35 One dozen, organic, long-stem Chocolate Dipped Strawberries also available for $50.

French Kiss
Say je t'aime at David Myer's classic French brasserie on Melrose. Start the evening out with one of their signature cocktails. The Diablo is sexy with tequila, fresh ginger, lime and club soda. It is even tasty as a virgin, without the alcohol. That's what Robin had when we lunched here earlier in the week. Comme Ça's 3 course prix fixe menu has plenty to choose from. For starters there's Parmesean Risotto, Lobster Bisque or Salade Frisee. Then Free Range Chicken Breast, New Zealand Snapper or Flat Iron Steak au Poirve for an entree. And so sweet: Pot du Creme au chocoloat, Lavender Creme Brulee or Strawberry Clafoutis. $50/person

Great Place for Vegetarian/Carnivore Couples
Get romantic and leave the cooking to Gino Angelini, one of the best Italian chefs in Los Angeles. The 3 course meal will please vegetarians and carnivores alike. Now that's amore! Choose Vegan Pea Soup Puree or Lobster Salad to start. Then there's Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Risotto, Halibut with Cherry Tomatoes, Olives and Fingerling Potatoes, or Braised Beef Short Ribs with Creamy Polenta. For dessert: Dark and White Chocolate Mousse or Vanilla Gelato with Mixed Berries. $45/person

Dine LA
Dine LA has been extended throughout the month of February so there are some great deals out there from top LA restaurants. Thus far I've checked out Nine Thirty, Gordon Ramsey and Comme Ça and had excellent meals at all of them. Favorite meal of the three Comme Ça. See www.dinela.com for more info.
